Rules for The traces of the polar bear
A dice game for any number of players

Zaza the polar bear is on the move in Hudson Bay once again. It is difficult to follow the polar bear, so tracking his footprints is the only option. Who will score the most points in the process? Players roll the four paw dice to earn points. They may reroll any of the dice up to two times to avoid pesky blue and orange paws and/or to achieve better combinations of face-up paws.

Contents:

  • 4 Dice
  • 1 Rule

Preparation:

A score sheet and a pen are required. The player who is currently coldest goes first.

Gameplay:

The active player rolls the dice. Afterward, they may choose to re-roll any number of the dice currently showing. This decision may be made up to two times.

The final result showing on the dice earns the player points. Note, however, that blue and orange dice result in negative points!

The player receives points for:

  • a pair (two matching paw colors): 1 point
  • three of a kind (three matching paw colors): 3 points
  • four of a kind (four matching paw colors): 5 points

However, if—at the end of the turn—blue and/or orange paws are showing face-up, these count as negative points:

  • 1 blue or orange die: 1 negative point
  • 2 matching blue or orange dice: 3 negative points
  • 3 matching blue or orange dice: 5 negative points

But:

  • 4 matching blue or orange dice: 5 positive points (!)
  • a mix of four different colors: 1 positive point (!)

End of the Game:

Play continues until a predetermined score is reached.
